Lynx North Cove Press Release

The arrival time has been changed from noon to 8 a.m. due to tide!

Lynx is an 122-foot square top sail schooner and is an interpretation of the original Lynx built in Maryland in 1812. She will be open to the public all week for tours and public sails.

The Lynx affords a unique opportunity for students to interact with their American History lessons and renders hands-on experience.  Students and adults recognize the War of 1812 as a significant element of American heritage and as a turning point in the development of our national identity.

Her call at the Port of New York is part of the celebration of the Bicentennial Celebration of the War of 1812 and the Star-Spangled Banner. She will be covering all ports along the East Coast of the United States during her five year voyage.

The Executive Director of the non-profit Lynx Educational Foundation, Jeffrey Woods, said:  "We are very excited to visit North Cove Marina for the first time, and want to thank wholeheartedly Dennis Conner, Michael Fortenbaugh and the rest of the North Cove team.  It is through their generous support that New York residents will have the chance to walk the decks and step back in time aboard Lynx, "America's Privateer"'.

Mr. Woods continues: "We are proud to deliver our port-to-port friendship exchange that promotes awareness of the travels and value to the maritime communities of the Privateer Lynx.  It is a mission of common maritime interest by the exchange or gifting from one port to another of good wishes and promotes the maritime connection that we are linked to.  Under a full press of sail, a gift will be safely transported as if it was 200 years ago.  We look forward to linking the community of New York to our previous port and next port of call."

The Lynx is acting in coordination with the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, a national leader in supporting the men and women of the US Armed Forces and their families.
